I received a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and a Juris Doctor degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill Law School. I have been a member of the North Carolina Academy of Trial Lawyers and the American Trial Lawyers Association. I have successfully argued important cases before the North Carolina Court of Appeals and the Supreme Court of North Carolina including cases such as Thrift vs. Food Lion and Triangle Ice. During my career, I have handled all types of cases from first-degree murder to simple divorces. But in recent years, I have concentrated my practice on serious personal injury, wrongful death, worker compensation and consumer bankruptcy cases. I have handled serious personal injury and wrongful death cases involving automobile, motorcycle and truck accidents, exposure to toxic industrial chemicals, premises liability cases such as the collapse of the Lowe's Motor Speedway pedestrian bridge; injuries caused by the explosion of the K&W Cafeteria in Winston-Salem, North Carolina; serious injury occurring at the Emerald Pointe Waterpark in Greensboro, North Carolina; as well as other cases occurring in several states including North Carolina, South Carolina, Florida, and Oklahoma. I recently completed successful litigation against a major life insurance company which had unfairly denied life insurance benefits to the survivor and which required that its name not be disclosed as a part of the settlement. This case involved the emerging area of post-claim underwriting by insurance companies.
When not practicing law, my outside interests consist of playing guitar and mandolin in Old Time music and various activities involving vintage foreign autos.
